How To Cook While Camping – The Dos And Don’ts

When you’re camping, there are many moments that you can share with the family and remember for long.

For instance, building a fire and sitting around it – the entire family – while one of you cooks and the rest sings all those fun camping longs.

It’s the perfect way to end the day and unwind from all the toil. But there are many things you will have to consider when thinking about how to cook while camping.

However fun campfires may be, you still need to be careful because there are many downsides if you are not. But if you follow the dos and don’ts of camping, you’ll be just fine.

How To Cook While Camping

Campfire Cooking:

To begin with, you should always know about the site where you are camping. Is it managed or not? If not, then you can light a fire without taking any permission but if the site if managed, you should ask.

Its not polite to light a fire on someone property without them knowing.

When you plan to light a fire for cooking, make sure you are well away from trees, branches that are overhanging, bushes or anything that can easily catch fire. Its not just the surroundings but also the ground where you will be setting the fire.

Make sure the surface is clean of leaves and material that is likely to catch fire.

When you’re trying to cook on the campfire, the embers are perfect for placing your pots and pans. However, if all the embers were to be on side of the fire, then it makes it easy for you to place the pans or pots on.

Moreover, you won’t have to bend to the middle of the fire to check if everything is going all right. This can be a risky thing. When the pots on one side, you can easily check if the food is cooked properly or not.

Never ever grab the pots with your bear hands. Always keep pot grabbers with you for safe keeping. In fact, you should have all the utensils you will be needing while you camp out in the wild.

Camping out in the open is completely different from that of inside so you will need different cookery items.

When you build a fire and cook on it, make sure the smoke doesn’t disturb other campers nearby. Even if you’re not cooking and its just a fire to keep you warm, you should ensure there is no smoke. This can easily be done if you have all the dry goods for the campfire.

When you are done cooking and don’t need to fire anymore, make sure you put it out. Don’t leave it like that, unattended and going on all throughout the night. This can be very risky.
